I completed my graduate education in Tucson, Arizona with a PhD from the Department of History and a minor from the Department of Near Eastern Studies (now the School of Middle Eastern and North African Studies), having fulfilled requirements in both Arabic and Persian.
  • Dissertation:  The politics of Late Ottoman education: Accommodating ethno-religious pluralism amid imperial disintegration.
  • Co-Advisers: Linda T. Darling and Julia Clancy-Smith

I initiated my overseas graduate education (i.e., in the United States) in Madison, Wisconsin, earning my second MA from the Department of History.

After completing my MA at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, I returned to Turkey and advanced to the status of a doctoral candidate (i.e., PhD ABD) before returning to the U.S. to complete my PhD at the University of Arizona.
